We are in the midst of a series about foundations.  We are looking at Genesis Chapter 1 where God reveals key things about Himself that He builds on throughout all of history.

At the end of Day 3 we see for the first time where God says everything reproduces after its own kind.  And here He starts with plants.  We see a wonderful reproductive process of growth, beauty (flowers), intimacy (pollination), and fruitfulness coming out of that.  Then we see seed growing within or as part of the fruit. And as the seed is scattered we see the process start all over.

Then on Day 4 God begins to delegate to His creation roles – even to non-living objects.  God speaks into existence the sun, moon, and stars.  Before this God already established the concept of a day, with evening and morning being a day even before there is a sun or moon!  And then God creates the sun, moon, and stars and a process whereby we get our concept of days and years where the earth rotates around the sun and the moon rotates around the earth.

God is the sustainer of all things.  Yet He lets His creation participate in the sustaining process by having gravity hold things in orbit.  However, God is the one behind the gravitational pull and if gravity were to go away He could easily re-embrace that process.  In fact we see this as we look forward to heaven.  We are told in the Book of Revelation that there are trees and fruit and yet there is no sun because God is the light.  We return to day 3 of creation where God Himself is what causes plants to grow and flourish without any sun at all!

On day five God speaks the fish of the sea and the birds of the air into existence.  And once again, just like the plant life, God speaks into existence a process where every thing reproduces according to its kind.

And God blessed them.  Here we have the foundation for blessing in scripture.  Where words are spoken over something that produces favor and good.  And God follows the blessing with a command, “Be fruitful and multiply.”

Then on day six God speaks the animals into existence.  And once again he says they will reproduce according to their kind.

This week pause and say, “Thank You God for Your creative process.  Thank You that you are above and beyond creation and yet You delegate to your creation so many wonderful things to carry on what You have established.  And one of Your desires is that Your creation would multiple and fill the earth!”

About 15 years ago our heavenly Father began encouraging me in my role as His son and out of that in my role as a father, both biologically and spiritually. Through multiple encounters on my journey God has revealed His heart as my Father and affirmed my sonship in Him. Out of this has come His call to fully embrace who He has created me to be as a father and to share that with others.
