Today we continue our series by looking at Psalm 23, what is likely the most well known chapter in the Psalms.

The Lord is our shepherd.  I think it is easy to think that we only need a shepherd when things get tough.  The truth is we need a good shepherd 24/7 365.  He is our Lord.  He is our Master.  Do we let him lead us?  Or have we been living on auto-pilot?

Do we trust Him to take us to green pastures?  Sometimes the path to green pastures takes us through the desert.  Will we cooperate with Him or does He have to make us lie down?  Our shepherd is our Lord!

He restores our soul.  Do we let Him love on us and strengthen our hearts?  Do we let Him bring peace to our minds?  Do we submit our will to His?

He leads us in paths of righteousness for His name sake.  Are we in this for Him or us?  When we strive in our own strength it is for our name sake.  When we rest in His righteousness it gives glory to His name!

I will fear no evil, for You are with me.  Are we aware of His presence?  Do both His rule in our lives and His mercy bring comfort to us?  Do we trust Him to protect us?  Are we able to sit down to eat at His table in the presence of our enemies and rest?

We are blessed. . . our cup overflows from His goodness and walking in His presence.  We get to dwell in His presence forever!

This week ask this question with me, “Am I allowing Jesus to be my shepherd or am I trying to “shepherd” Him, trying to lead Him?”

About 15 years ago our heavenly Father began encouraging me in my role as His son and out of that in my role as a father, both biologically and spiritually. Through multiple encounters on my journey God has revealed His heart as my Father and affirmed my sonship in Him. Out of this has come His call to fully embrace who He has created me to be as a father and to share that with others.
