We continue our conversational series of life messages between Steve Sizemore and Bob Swank. (For Steve’s bio see episode 1)
Today we briefly revisit:
- James 4:6 and I Peter 5:5 which state “God opposes the proud and gives grace to the humble.”
- Grace is key in our journey to become like Jesus and obey Jesus.
We then begin to examine what pride is, how to recognize it in our lives and how to repent of it.
One of the core elements of pride is deception. At the root of pride is a lie – a lie about God, myself, or others.
- It can be an exaggeration or an overstatement, a boast.
- It can also be an understatement such as, “I don’t have value. I’m no good.” These lies make me think I will appear humble by clinging to some sort of distorted modesty.
Satan’s formula for self-worth is: my performance + the opinion of others = my value. It’s the proverbial hamster wheel. . .you can go as fast as you want and not get anywhere.
Join us as we invite God to reveal pride in our lives, repent of it, and embrace the truth that our value is firmly rooted in the fact that we are image bearers of God.
