Today Bob and Steve take a closer look at pride and how important it is that we see it from God’s perspective.

We ask the question, “Where does effort show up when it comes to grace?  Is grace opposed to effort?”

  • Dallas Willard says, “Grace is not opposed to effort but it is opposed to earning.”
  • When grace is working in our lives for the sake of transformation and obedience there is a beautiful collision of grace and effort. This is demonstrated well in a quote by Heidi Baker, “I can’t, but You can, so we will.”

Scripture teaches us that God hates pride.  Why does He hate it?

  • Because pride is so destructive and it is opposite to His nature.
  • He knows that pride unleashes pain, suffering, and deception.

If God hates pride what is my attitude towards it?

  • Pride is more deadly than any contagious disease. Diseases can only kill our bodies but pride can destroy our bodies and our souls for eternity.
  • Let’s imitate God and hate pride like He does, but not the people who walk in it.

Bob Swank

About 15 years ago our heavenly Father began encouraging me in my role as His son and out of that in my role as a father, both biologically and spiritually. Through multiple encounters on my journey God has revealed His heart as my Father and affirmed my sonship in Him. Out of this has come His call to fully embrace who He has created me to be as a father and to share that with others.
