We continue our conversational series of life messages between Steve Sizemore and Bob Swank.  (For Steve’s bio see episode 1)

Today we jump into the topic of calling.  What does it mean to be called?

When we think of “calling” we typically think of someone going into full time “vocational” ministry.  In doing so we miss so much of what God has for all of us because every human being is called.

Three aspects to our calling:

  • The call to belong. God is reconciling the whole world to Himself.  God calls us first to Him.
  • The call to become. This flows out of our call to belong.
    • To become like Christ. . .to be transformed into His likeness. . .to express His character and nature.
    • Our heart’s cry is, “Make me like Jesus”
    • There is a tension in the call to become. We all have the same standard.  We are all under the banner of love.  Yet there is the unique expression of God in each person.
    • Becoming requires a lot of unlearning.
  • The call to do
    • What is my role or assignment?
    • None of us are spectators. Actively respond.
    • Here am I, send me!

Apply this today by expressing your trust in the sufficiency of God’s grace.  State or re-state your answer to each area of His call to all of us and then walk it out.

Bob Swank

About 15 years ago our heavenly Father began encouraging me in my role as His son and out of that in my role as a father, both biologically and spiritually. Through multiple encounters on my journey God has revealed His heart as my Father and affirmed my sonship in Him. Out of this has come His call to fully embrace who He has created me to be as a father and to share that with others.
