Today Todd and I continue the conversation about digging around our spiritual roots.

Around 2015 God began stirring my heart for adoption.  As I was teaching the staff at LifeMission Church one day I said, “Adoption scares me half to death.”  The Holy Spirit stopped me in my tracks and said, “Bob, that’s your problem.  It should scare you completely to death.” In that moment I realized that I still relied way too much on my own strength.

Todd shares how God wants to show Himself even in the things that seem so simple.  He was dating Darlene and they were installing a stereo in his car in his parents’ driveway.  However, he couldn’t find the stereo knobs to finish the job and was getting frustrated.   Darlene encouraged Todd to stop and pray and ask the Holy Spirit to show him where they were.  And within seconds they were found!  We have a direct connection with our Creator and we can call on Him for anything!

A few months after I said, “Adoption scares me half to death” I was at the One Thing Conference in downtown Kansas City in December of 2015.  There the Holy Spirit led me to go up to a booth of an adoption ministry.  I was turning 50 and gave all the reasons why this was a bad idea.  However, before I knew it, I was being prayed for and ended up on the floor in a puddle of my own tears.  One of the prayers that was repeatedly prayed over me was, “Undo him, Lord.”

Over the coming days while I was pondering that prayer the Holy Spirit led me to Isaiah 6 where Isaiah says He was undone by God.  It shows us how God wants to undo us.   He wants us to see Him so clearly so that our only response is, “I’m dependent on You!”

In the years that followed we were undone!  We brought a precious newborn baby girl into our home.  She stayed with us until she was 2 ½ and then went to one of her biological family members.  Throughout that journey God revealed Himself as our precious loving Father.

Yes, God wants to undo all of us.  He wants to reveal Himself so clearly to us that we don’t even have words.  In that place He looks us in the eyes and speaks into our spirits, “You are amazing.  You are precious.  You are valuable to Me.  I believe in you.  I love you.  I’ve written you on the palm of My hand.  You are the apple of My eye.”  Proclaim the truth of what God says over you this week!  He is for you!

About 15 years ago our heavenly Father began encouraging me in my role as His son and out of that in my role as a father, both biologically and spiritually. Through multiple encounters on my journey God has revealed His heart as my Father and affirmed my sonship in Him. Out of this has come His call to fully embrace who He has created me to be as a father and to share that with others.
