Though Christmas is already behind us, the Christmas story continues. Various other cultures capture this so much better than we do. Many cultures celebrate the Day of the Kings or Wise Men two weeks after Christmas. For some of those cultures this day is the main day of giving gifts as opposed to Christmas day itself.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. Today we continue our Christmas story by looking at Simeon and Anna. Join the conversation as once again I sit down with my good friend Christian Shelton.
According to Hebrew custom Jesus is circumcised 8 days after birth. Then 40 days after the birth of a son a woman’s purification time would end. Mary was now “clean” and she and Joseph could go to the temple and present their firstborn son to the Lord. It is worth noting that the sacrifice that Joseph and Mary brought of a “pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons” was for a poor person who could not afford a lamb.
Jump in with us for further insights into Simeon’s prophetic words and the probable events that surrounded Anna’s widowhood and potentially fueled her desire to see the coming of the Messiah.
Then read Luke 2:21-38 and ask the Holy Spirit for further revelation.
