Steve joins me today to continue our conversation about making disciples.   As disciple makers one of our roles is to help others focus on what is important.

The scriptures instruct us to:

  1. Look to Jesus. (Heb. 12:2a)
  2. Look to the harvest fields. (John 4:35)
  3. Look for His second coming. (Heb. 9:28)

How do we keep our focus?

  • Get around people who are focused on the same thing.
  • Learn how to recognize the presence of Jesus. Develop the practice of pausing and asking Him what He is saying right now.  This also:
    • Helps us to put the focus on Him as our source and the source for others.
    • Models dependence on the Holy Spirit.

How do we keep our eyes on the harvest?

  • Read Luke 15. It starts with people questioning why Jesus is hanging out with sinners.
  • This whole chapter is about viewing the lost the way that God does.
    • Ask God to feel what it means to be lost. . .that it would guide and shape the way we interact with and pray for people.
    • Pray for the lost. It will change the way you view and relate to them.
    • Who are your top five people you are praying for to come into the Kingdom?
    • Am I believing, just like a farmer does, for a harvest?

This week pause and reflect on the 2nd coming of Jesus.  Ask the Holy Spirit for His perspective.  You will gain a greater focus on Jesus and the lost.

Bob Swank

About 15 years ago our heavenly Father began encouraging me in my role as His son and out of that in my role as a father, both biologically and spiritually. Through multiple encounters on my journey God has revealed His heart as my Father and affirmed my sonship in Him. Out of this has come His call to fully embrace who He has created me to be as a father and to share that with others.
