Today we continue our series by diving into Psalm 27.

Verse 1a:  The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom I shall I fear?  I like to walk at night. . .sometimes I experience God’s peace, but sometimes it is a little eerie.  But it only takes a little bit of light from my phone’s flashlight for darkness to flee.  When God’s light (His very essence) comes, salvation comes.

Verse 1b:  The Lord is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid.  Do we lean into our own strength or into God’s?

Verse 2:  When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh, my enemies and foes, they stumbled and fell.  Verse 3a:  Through an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear.  David knew these things firsthand.  David was out running from Saul and his armies.  He knew that many times if it wasn’t for God’s hand David would have been captured and killed.

Verse 4:  One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek.  That I may dwell in His house all the day of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, to inquire in His temple.  This shows singular purpose and focus.  David wanted to be in God’s home all the time.  He wanted to hang out there.  He wanted refrigerator rights.  He wants to be included in God’s presence.  Is that your desire today?  Or are you afraid of God?  If so, ask Him to reveal His love and character to you.  We want to be like David where we can freely have a childlike attitude before God and ask questions.

Verse 8:  When you said, “Seek My face,” my heart said to You, “Your face Lord, will I seek.”  Do our hearts seek after God?  Or do we respond with, “Sorry God, I have other things to do?”

Verse 10:  When my father and mother forsake me, then the Lord will take care of me.”

This is the good news of the Gospel!  God is faithful when others aren’t.  Jesus experienced Peter and the other disciples turning their backs on Him.  Aren’t you glad that Jesus looks at us and says, “They are mine.  They belong to Me.”

Verse 13-14:  I would have lost heart, unless I believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  Wait on the Lord, and be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart.  Wait, I say, on the Lord.  Do we believe God will show up?  Sometimes it may seem like it is at the final moment, but He will show up!  Do we recognize Him when He appears?

Join me this week in waiting on Lord.  Let’s look to Him with expectation and wait for Him to move.

About 15 years ago our heavenly Father began encouraging me in my role as His son and out of that in my role as a father, both biologically and spiritually. Through multiple encounters on my journey God has revealed His heart as my Father and affirmed my sonship in Him. Out of this has come His call to fully embrace who He has created me to be as a father and to share that with others.
