Today we continue our series by diving into Psalm 32.  Here we see the emotions and passion that flow from David’s heart as he wrestles with being open about his sin to God.

David jumps in and says that whoever knows their sin is forgiven is blessed.  Aren’t you grateful today that your sins are forgiven –  that you can boldly approach God’s throne of grace?

God does not count our sin against us.  The only thing we owe God is a mutual debt of love. . .and even God Himself fulfills that by giving us the love by which we love Him.

David says that when he kept silent and didn’t confess his sin it caused physical symptoms in his body.  He says his “vitality was turned into the drought of summer.” That doesn’t mean if we are sick it is because there is sin in our lives.  At the same time, sin can make us sick.  It can cause physical symptoms and suck out our life and sap our energy.

But when we confess our sin to God everything changes!  David knew that if he confessed his sin God would forgive him.  He knew and was confident that God was gracious, compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in love.

In verse 8 God speaks.  He reminds us, “I will instruct you and teach you the way you should go.  I will watch over you and guide you with my eye.”  He then challenges us to not be like a stubborn horse or mule that require a bit and bridle to guide them.  We all have had the opportunity to respond to a simple look from our parents or a teacher or someone in authority.  And when God directs us with His eye, let’s be quick to move with Him.

Let’s do something bold today.  Let’s ask the Holy Spirit to convict us of sin this week.  “Holy Spirit, show me the things in my heart that are not pleasing to you.  Reveal my sin to me that I can repent, ask for forgiveness, receive it, and walk in Your blessing!

About 15 years ago our heavenly Father began encouraging me in my role as His son and out of that in my role as a father, both biologically and spiritually. Through multiple encounters on my journey God has revealed His heart as my Father and affirmed my sonship in Him. Out of this has come His call to fully embrace who He has created me to be as a father and to share that with others.
