*This week’s blog is only in a written format.*
Today we jump into Psalm 68. Here David calls on God to “Arise, scatter His enemies, and drive them away like smoke.” Two days ago, we had smoke here in Salt Lake City, Utah from fires in Idaho that are almost 300 miles away. And then with a shift in weather and winds, the smoke is now being pushed into Nevada, over 100 miles to our west.
The Bible is clear that God “opposes the proud and gives grace to the humble.” In verse 2 of Psalm 68 it goes on to say that “the hills melt like wax in at God’s presence.” Let’s all choose to quickly humble ourselves and recognize that it is foolish to be an enemy of God.
God delights in showing Himself faithful to all people, but especially to the vulnerable and oppressed. Verse 5 says, “A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, Is God in His holy habitation.” You may not know your father, but God not only knows you, He loves you and is thrilled to be known as your father. He chooses to identify with you!
Or you may be a widow – your husband may have died and you may feel all alone. It’s hard. But God declares in Isaiah 54:5, “But your Maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is His name.” It’s significant that Isaiah declares He is the Lord of hosts (the God of angel armies). As you draw near to God your husband He will draw near to you (and when necessary deploy His angel armies on your behalf).
Verse six then says, “God sets the solitary in families.” Are you all alone? Do you feel lonely? This week, ask God to give you a spiritual family or strengthen the one you already have. Take a step towards others and purpose to be a blessing. I’m confident God will do more than you ask!
