*This week’s blog is only in a written format.  There will be a video and written blog again next week.*

Today we continue to be challenged by the wisdom in the Psalms.  The first two verses of Psalm 127 describe many of us when we have our priorities misaligned.  We run to and fro, giving our time and energy to many things, most of which won’t matter once we are in the presence of the Lord.

Verse 2 ends by saying, “He gives His beloved sleep.”  The devil, the enemy of our souls, wants to keep us anxious, focusing on our needs.  Jesus calls us to focus on Him.  He says, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

As fathers and parents we are called to model a lifestyle of dependence on the Lord.  When we rest in His goodness and provision we are empowered to see children for what they are, a blessing.  When we focus on ourselves and our circumstances we begin to see children as a burden.  We also model skewed and wrong priorities for them.

Psalm 127 says in verse 3, “Children are a blessing from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward.’  Your children are a blessing.  All children are a blessing!  This doesn’t mean they always act nice and give us a warm fuzzy feeling.   But they are a blessing!  We need to declare that.

Have you told your children they are a blessing?  Have you done it recently?  No matter what age we are, we all need affirmation and encouragement.

This week, choose to declare that your children are a blessing.  Speak it out loud before God.  Speak it out loud to your kids!

About 15 years ago our heavenly Father began encouraging me in my role as His son and out of that in my role as a father, both biologically and spiritually. Through multiple encounters on my journey God has revealed His heart as my Father and affirmed my sonship in Him. Out of this has come His call to fully embrace who He has created me to be as a father and to share that with others.
