Today we continue to look at our concept of God.  The question we want to address is, “Do I really believe God is for me?”  A lot of us would immediately say, “Yes!”

However, any time we yield to sin we are actually saying, “God must be against me because I am acting on the belief that there is something better for me than what God has.”  So we want to align ourselves with God’s word and declare with Romans 8:31, “If God be for us, who can be against us?”

There is a worship song that is sung in many churches titled, “The King of My Heart” by John Mark and Sarah McMillan.  The bridge in the song is, “You’re never gonna let, Never gonna let me down.”  That is repeated 8X.  I understand this is a declaration that God is always faithful.

However, we don’t always understand God’s ways.  Have you ever been disappointed in God?  I have.  That doesn’t make you a terrible person.  It simply means that you had hoped God would do something that He didn’t end up doing.  You, like me, had a desire and/or a hope that didn’t get fulfilled, or at least not the way you thought it would.  So, you felt “let down”.

Let’s circle back to my statement, any time we yield to sin we are actually saying, “God must be against me because I am acting on the belief that there is something better for me than what God has.”  This is the essence of satan’s temptation of Adam and Eve in the garden in Genesis 3, “Things will be better for you if you just do this!  Eat the fruit.”

But if we know that we know that we know that God always desires what is best for us, no matter what, we are less likely to sin.  The more convinced we are of His love, the more we trust Him.  And the more we trust Him, the more we obey Him.

Is there an area in your life you are struggling with?  First, ask the Holy Spirit to give you a fresh revelation of how much God loves you.  Then once you have received and embraced God’s love ask the Holy Spirit, “Please show me the lie I am believing in the depth of my soul that causes me to choose sin instead of resting in Your love.”  Then when the Holy Spirit shows you something, repent and enjoy the freedom we have in Jesus!

About 15 years ago our heavenly Father began encouraging me in my role as His son and out of that in my role as a father, both biologically and spiritually. Through multiple encounters on my journey God has revealed His heart as my Father and affirmed my sonship in Him. Out of this has come His call to fully embrace who He has created me to be as a father and to share that with others.
