In 1 Peter 4:8 we read these words, “And above all things have fervent love for one another, for ‘love will cover a multitude of sins’.” Are you grateful that love has covered your sins? I sure am!
Many times, the world and even God’s people dig up sinful things to shame others. Instead of love the goal is to expose someone’s faults and parade them openly. How sad!
However, God asks us to confess, to acknowledge and uncover our sins for completely different reasons. Why? Does He do it to expose our wickedness and shame us? No! He does it so we can be healthy and whole. In fact, He has already provided a covering for everything He asks us to uncover.
God is love. And “love covers a multitude of sins.” He sure does! God covers an uncountable number of sins. He has covered it with His mercy through the blood of Jesus.
Bringing things to the light in healthy ways is freeing and cleansing. Did you know that in the natural, sunlight is an amazing, purifying agent? If one puts a clear glass of water in the sun for at least six hours, the heat and ultraviolet radiation kill most harmful microorganisms.
God assures us, “If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” I John 1:9. King David understood this, and said to God in Psalm 51:7, “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.”
Being “purged with hyssop” refers to being cleansed by the blood of Jesus! Hyssop was used to sprinkle the blood of the Passover lamb on the doorposts and lintel of a home and it was used by priests to sprinkle blood to cleanse and purify people.
Take your sin and junk to Jesus today! Don’t hide it and try to cover it yourself. Let Him cleanse you and set you free!
