In this episode we invite you to explore gratefulness with us.  Gratefulness is a sign of humility.  It is also a great way to measure our humility.  It is our humility “dipstick.”  Humble people are grateful.  And grateful people are humble.  They go together.

What kind of spirit am I walking in?  What is coming out of my mouth?  What attitude do I have towards God and others?  Is it gratefulness or grumbling and complaining?  If gratefulness is not coming out of my mouth my humility level is probably getting low.

How do I grow in humility?  What do I do?  One of the things that creates an environment for humility to prosper is gratefulness.  When we begin to give thanks it aligns us to reality.

Exercise:  Think about a practical expression of God’s lovingkindness in your life.  Stay focused on that and think on that for 60 seconds.  After that time you are very likely to have a strong desire to say thanks.  What we set our hearts on begins to grow.  This exercise recalibrates us to align with God.

Humility recognizes that the good things in our lives have come from God and others and the recognition of that is found in giving thanks.  Exercise your gratefulness muscle. Take a walk and thank God for everything you see and are experiencing!

The next time you turn on the faucet, pause and realize, “What have I done to deserve clean water?” It is a gift.  We are surrounded by blessing and privilege.  We are in such a hurry that we rarely pause long enough to give thanks.  Gratefulness is like the piano tuner coming to a piano.  Gratefulness tunes us into what is true about God, true about others, and true about ourselves.

About 15 years ago our heavenly Father began encouraging me in my role as His son and out of that in my role as a father, both biologically and spiritually. Through multiple encounters on my journey God has revealed His heart as my Father and affirmed my sonship in Him. Out of this has come His call to fully embrace who He has created me to be as a father and to share that with others.
