Today my friend Todd Davis joins me and primes the pump as I share my Jesus story.

Someone shared with me today, “I’m not very good at this religion thing.”  And my simple response was, “It’s Jesus.  Jesus changes lives.”

I’m grateful for the physical manifestation of love that my parents showed me growing up by providing for us.  I’m also grateful that my dad chose to make some tough decisions when he was in his 30s and that when He felt God nudging him he responded and decided to become a pastor.

However, there was hurt and pain growing up in a home that was legalistic – where it was all about performance.   I spent most of my time doing my best to put on a good front while living in a failure/striving complex…trying to earn affirmation and always feeling like it wasn’t enough.  On the service I excelled in baseball, track, and basketball.  I was valedictorian of my class and president of the youth group.

Yet there was  a real yearning in my life.  When I went to college I was challenged by friends, “You say you follow Jesus but your lifestyle doesn’t match it.”   I had learned to live with one foot in the world and one foot in religion (not Jesus).  Watch the video to hear how Jesus broke through in my life and how I came to know and declare, “Jesus is alive.”

This week ask God if there is an area where you feel it’s too late for things to change.  Then ask Him to do a miracle in that area.  As long as we are breathing it’s never too late!

About 15 years ago our heavenly Father began encouraging me in my role as His son and out of that in my role as a father, both biologically and spiritually. Through multiple encounters on my journey God has revealed His heart as my Father and affirmed my sonship in Him. Out of this has come His call to fully embrace who He has created me to be as a father and to share that with others.
