Last week David Ham joined us and shared how God gave him the courage to confess his struggle with pornography to a couple of close friends, his parents, and his girlfriend.  That led to freedom.

This week we pick up the story with David from there.  David was now free from the act itself.  But the guilt and shame lingered.  They caused a heaviness that didn’t make things warm and relational.

David shares that being in God’s word and being in community were foundational for the growth that he needed.  He became more comfortable with being vulnerable.  And as David shared his heart with his wife Maggie she also grew in being open with him as well.

One of the keys for David to walk in His identity in Christ was to get God’s word in him.  When a temptation or ungodly thought came David would confess, “That is not who I am.  I’m a new creation.  Christ lives in me.”  He had to speak it out of his own mouth.  His healing came from confessing his sin to God and others and then confessing his identity in Christ to the enemy.

David states, “Recently, I am being challenged to yield even more to Jesus.  I’m in covenant with God just like my wife Maggie.  Why would I hide anything from either one of them?”

In Isaiah 45:9 it says, “Does the clay say to him who formed it, ‘What are you making?’”  We must yield to God’s work in us and the identity He gives us.  He is our Creator.

This week yield everything afresh to Jesus.  Embrace your identity in Christ!

About 15 years ago our heavenly Father began encouraging me in my role as His son and out of that in my role as a father, both biologically and spiritually. Through multiple encounters on my journey God has revealed His heart as my Father and affirmed my sonship in Him. Out of this has come His call to fully embrace who He has created me to be as a father and to share that with others.
