Today is the 2nd week of a series on Talking with God.  It is beautiful that God desires relationship with us.  He loves to communicate with us.

I want you to be confident that God speaks today, that God speaks to you, and God wants to speak with you. . .that He wants a relationship where you respond to His voice.  His voice comes in many ways.

Returning to Genesis today we see God speaking with Noah and Abram.  He speaks blessings of fruitfulness and multiplication over them.

Moving forward several chapters we want to lean into the truth that God speaks with women just like He speaks with men. In Genesis 16 we find Hagar, Sarah’s maidservant, and God in a conversation.   God speaks a blessing over Hagar similar to the blessings He spoke over Noah and Abram.  After Hagar’s interaction with God she says, “You are the God who sees.”   For she says, “I’ve seen God just as God sees me.”

In Genesis 18 we find Sarah inwardly laughing at God’s promise to her and Abram that she would give birth and have a son.  God then asks, “Why did Sarah laugh?’  Sarah denies that she laughed and God corrects her and says, “No, but you did laugh.”  However, God didn’t use His knowledge of Sarah’s heart to condemn her.  He uses it to affirm the truth of His Word and His ways!  What a beautiful interaction between Sarah and the Lord!

This same interaction with women (and men) continues in the next generation up through today.  Isaac (which literally means ‘Laughter’) is born to Abraham and Sarah.  Isaac goes on to marry Rebekah and she becomes pregnant.  In Genesis 25:22ff Rebekah inquires of the Lord why there is a struggle in her womb and the Lord lets Rebekah know she will have twins and gives Rebekah words about their futures.

Whether you are a man or a woman I’m confident God wants to speak with you.  Ask God this week to give you ears to hear what He is saying!

About 15 years ago our heavenly Father began encouraging me in my role as His son and out of that in my role as a father, both biologically and spiritually. Through multiple encounters on my journey God has revealed His heart as my Father and affirmed my sonship in Him. Out of this has come His call to fully embrace who He has created me to be as a father and to share that with others.
